Why Is Kumara Parvatha Trek So Famous?

Some treks are about reaching the summit. Kumara Parvatha is about the journey.

The landscape keeps changing as you climb. You begin with forest trails, move through open grasslands and rocky sections, and eventually reach higher mountain terrain with sweeping views of the Western Ghats.

The route includes some of the trek’s most recognised landmarks, including Bhattara Mane, Shesha Parvatha and Pushpagiri Peak. And then there is the feeling of standing high above the surrounding forest after hours of climbing.

That is what makes the Kumara Parvatha Trek in Karnataka so memorable.

Kumara Parvatha Trek Route

📍 Kukke Subramanya Bhattara Mane Shesha Parvatha ⛰ Kumara Parvatha Peak
Trek Route: Kukke Subramanya → Bhattara Mane → Shesha Parvatha → Kumara Parvatha Peak. The trail transitions from forested climbs to open grasslands, rocky terrain and steeper summit sections.

The most popular route starts from Kukke Subramanya.

Kukke Subramanya to Bhattara Mane

The trek begins with a gradual but continuous climb through forested terrain. This section can feel demanding because the elevation gain starts early.

After several kilometres of walking, you reach Bhattara Mane, an important rest point along the trail.

This is where you can take a break, eat something and prepare yourself for the more exposed sections ahead.

Bhattara Mane to Shesha Parvatha

The landscape changes dramatically after Bhattara Mane.

Dense forest gradually gives way to open grasslands and rocky terrain. The trail becomes more exposed, and you begin getting wider views of the surrounding Western Ghats.

This section is particularly beautiful in good weather, but it can also be tiring because of the continuous climbs and uneven surface.

Shesha Parvatha is one of the major highlights of this section.

Shesha Parvatha to Kumara Parvatha Peak

The final stretch takes you across more rocky and undulating terrain before the climb towards the summit.

By this stage, your legs may be tired, but the surrounding views provide plenty of motivation. Reach the summit, take a deep breath and look around.

You made it.

The breathtaking view of the Western Ghats from the higher sections is the reward for completing one of Karnataka’s most demanding popular treks.

How Difficult is the Kumara Parvatha Trek?

Let’s be honest: Kumara Parvatha is challenging.

The distance, elevation gain, steep sections and uneven terrain make it significantly more demanding than many beginner-friendly Karnataka treks.

You do not need to be an expert mountaineer, but you should have good basic fitness and be comfortable walking for several hours.

If you are preparing for the trek, start training a few weeks in advance. Regular walking, stair climbing, jogging and strength exercises for your legs can make a noticeable difference.

Therefore, beginners should not underestimate this trek.

The weather can also change the difficulty considerably. Wet rocks, mud and slippery trails can make an already demanding route much harder.

Best Time for Kumara Parvatha Trek

Wondering about the best time to visit Kumara Parvatha?

The post-monsoon and winter months are generally preferred, especially October to February, when the weather is comparatively pleasant and the landscape remains green.

Karnataka Tourism has listed October to May on wider terms for this trek, but access is subject to forest rules, weather and seasonal permissions. The monsoon brings spectacular greenery, but heavy rain can make the trail slippery and difficult. Therefore, you must check the latest forest-department rules before planning your trek.
